Nunda Township Supervisor Lee Jennings died Tuesday

Nunda Township Supervisor Lee Jennings died at the age of 58 on Tuesday, according to a news release.

According to the release, there will be a private service held at a later date. Jennings' cause of death was not revealed.

Jennings was born in Aurora on July 17, 1961.

The news release stated he "passed away peacefully surrounded by his girls" on Tuesday.

"He loved his job as supervisor of Nunda Township," the release said. "He was an avid fixer/tinkerer/handyman often working on cars, computers, or houses. He was a fan of old cars, motorcycles, and Jimmy Buffett."

During the Nunda Township Board meeting Thursday, Trustee Karen Tynis, who was named temporary deputy clerk on Thursday, said Jenning's death was a great loss to the township.

"It was a pleasure serving and working with him," she said. "It was an honor to serve with him. He's going to be missed very much."

Highway Commissioner Mike Lesperance said Jennings always gave him solid reasoning and counsel on all his important decisions.

"He always had a smile, he always had a kind word and he he was always ready to pitch in, whether it was personal or work here at the township," Lesperance said.

Cemetery Board President Bill Boltz said Jennings always had an answer for the board.

"He gave us good guidance," Boltz said.

Boltz said Jennings became a good friend, who would always stop by his house and check in on him.

"That's just the kind of guy he was," Boltz said. "He was concerned about his constituents. We had plenty of chances to talk, and that I will miss greatly."

Trustee Justin Franzke knew Jennings for four years, and called him a mentor, akin to what Franzke would expect from a big brother.

"He always had the answer for any questions that I had," Franzke said. "Definitely a go-to person, but it was also fun at the same time."

Franzke said Jennings was wise, and definitely always had an opinion.

"He was a good guy," Franzke said.

A special meeting to discuss the appointment of Jenning's replacement as township supervisor is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Jennings is survived by wife, Sue Jennings; daughters, Hanna and Savannah Jennings; brothers, Larry Jennings (Jeanette) from Batavia and Lamont Jennings (Monica) from Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene Jennings; his father, William Edwin "Red" Jennings; and two infant sisters.
