Schaumburg man charged with striking, biting woman outside grocery store

A Schaumburg man was ordered held on $30,000 bail on charges authorities say stemmed from a confrontation outside a grocery store.

Steven Concaildi, 44, is charged with aggravated battery in a public place, and the case remains under review, prosecutors said.

Concaildi was leaving the store at Schaumburg and Barrington roads with his groceries about 11:30 a.m. Monday when he was nearly struck by a car driven by a woman, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Nicole Murphy said Wednesday.

Concaildi yelled a racial epithet at the driver, who is Black, hit the hood and attempted to break off the driver's-side mirror, Murphy said. He stuck his head in the driver's-side window while yelling at the woman, Murphy said.

After the woman got out of the car, Concaildi pushed her and she pushed him back, Murphy said. He then punched her in the face and bit her, Murphy said.

A 911 call alerted police officers who happened to be in the store at the time. Witnesses reported observing the woman almost striking the defendant with her car and him yelling racial epithets at her, Murphy said.

The woman had facial injuries, a nose fracture and a bite on her hand, Murphy said.

Concaildi next appears in court July 17.
