Beach Park motorcyclist dies in crash

A Beach Park man was killed Tuesday in Waukegan when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a truck.

The motorcycle driver, who the Waukegan Police Department said was in his 50s and was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene and remains unidentified until proper family notifications are made.

Police officers responded to the crash about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 2200 block of North Lewis. Investigators from the Waukegan Police Department's Major Crash Unit believe the motorcycle and a 44-foot-long semitrailer truck both were traveling north on North Lewis when the truck, in the left lane, tried to merge into the right lane and struck the motorcycle.

The truck driver, a Racine, Wisconsin, man in his 30s who is cooperating with authorities, was not issued any citations. The Lake County state's attorney's office may take action pending the results of the investigation.
