Police: Drunken driver seriously injures woman in Naperville crash

A Naperville man faces several charges including DUI after he was accused of causing a crash that seriously injured a Glen Ellyn woman, authorities said Monday.

Bakari M. Diaby, 22, has been charged with felony aggravated DUI, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of cannabis, illegal lane usage, failure to reduce speed and operating an uninsured vehicle, police said in a news release.

The crash occurred about 6:56 p.m. Sunday on Naper Boulevard south of Plank Road, police said.

Police said their preliminary investigation shows Diaby was driving south on Naper Boulevard in a red 2005 Honda CRV, when he crossed over the double-yellow lane divider and struck a gray 2009 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Altima, a 55-year-old Glen Ellyn woman, was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, police said. Diaby was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police closed Naper Boulevard and rerouted traffic until about 12:30 a.m., while members of the traffic unit trained in crash reconstruction began their investigation.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the traffic unit at (630) 305-5477.
