Des Plaines pools open for lap swimming

The Des Plaines Park District opened its two outdoor neighborhood pools this weekend for adult lap swim and team practice and is holding out the possibility of hosting open public swimming next weekend.

"I am really grateful this is open," said Matt Ciciora-Gold of Des Plaines, who was swimming laps Saturday at Iroquois pool. He is training for an Ironman competition in July and hadn't been able to swim until Friday because his gym was closed due to COVID-19.

At Iroquois pool, lap swimming is scheduled daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Chippewa pool is hosting team practices from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. daily except Sunday. The pool will be closed for cleaning before lap swimming each day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A maximum of 10 people are permitted in the pool at a time on a first-come, first-served basis.
