NorthShore hospital system makes care kits for COVID-19 patients

NorthShore University HealthSystem has developed COVID-19 Care Kits for patients testing positive for the virus who are sent home to recuperate.

The kit includes: 10 face masks, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a pulse oximeter finger reader and a NorthShore Care Guide for Adults with COVID-19. The aim is to help patients safely recover at home and to work with their medical providers to help manage their illness, officials said in a news release Wednesday.

NorthShore clinicians are contacting patients who are recovering at home to provide support and guidance in partnership with their care team and existing primary care relationships. In addition to answering questions, providing support and evaluating current symptoms, the NorthShore team is able to use information from the finger readers to help guide patients through their illness and provide insight into patients who may need to come to the hospital for further evaluation.

NorthShore has distributed about 50 kits per day since May 27. The NorthShore Foundation is raising funds for the kits. The goal is to raise $350,000 to provide care kits for 10,000 patients. For information, go to https://foundation.northshore.org/carekit.
