Buffalo Theatre Ensemble hits pause

Less than a month after announcing its 2020-21 lineup, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble members have elected to pause the season in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and safety precautions initiated by Gov. J.B. Pritzker as part of his phased Restore Illinois plan.

"A close examination of the plan made it evident there would be significant impact on the way we audition, design, rehearse, stage and perform, as well as serious financial implications," artistic director Connie Canaday Howard said in a prepared statement.

As a result, the ensemble, in residence at the McAninch Arts Center in Glen Ellyn, will go on hiatus until "we can return strongly in fall 2020," Howard said in a statement that thanked BTE patrons and sponsors.

Associate artistic director Amelia Barrett said ensemble members are working on ways to remain connected with subscribers and supporters until the company returns.

"Our spirit of great hope and determination, together with our continued commitment to producing outstanding theater will continue to propel us forward," Howard said.

The box office will contact subscribers who will have the option to have their checks returned or converted to a donation. Contact the box office at bteorders@cod.edu or by phone at (630) 942-3008.
