Burlington Central High School holds a backward parade

Burlington Central High School 2020 graduates enjoyed a parade of a different kind Saturday.

Cheering family and friends in decorated cars drove in a slow parade past the graduates, who were standing on the side of the road in the Stonecrest Subdivision in rural Plato Township. The backward parade lasted about one hour. Graduates were wearing their blue robes and caps and were provided with chairs, although most chose to stand and laugh and wave as the parade honored them with a slow crawl.

Kane County Sheriff deputies helped with traffic control and the parade was led by a firetruck. Seniors arrived early and were directed to stand on socially distant marked spots on the right side of the road.
