York plans Community Cheer for Class of 2020

Elmhurst's York High School will celebrate the Class of 2020 with a webcast called "Pomp Under Any Circumstance Community Cheer Countdown" at 1 p.m. Sunday on the school's webpage.

The webcast will include the York fight song playing over loudspeakers at the stadium; the stadium horn sounding at 1:10 p.m. in honor of the seniors' traditional entry into the field house with residents urged to go to their lawns to clang pots and pans, blow air horns or ring bells from 1:10 to 1:15 p.m.; and the lighting of the football stadium with lights remaining on until 8:20 p.m. or 20:20 in military time.

Elmhurst Unit District 205 officials have asked Immaculate Conception, Timothy Christian High School and Elmhurst College to adopt any of these ideas and tailor them to the needs of their constituencies. The district will reciprocate by using York's marquee space to salute their graduates on their original ceremony dates through the end of May.

The district also is asking the city, park district, businesses, churches and organizations to post special messages on their marquees and/or posting signs saluting the Class of 2020 beginning May 15.
