Oakbrook Terrace OKs business stimulus package
The Oakbrook Terrace City Council has approved a stimulus package totaling about $311,000 to assist the city's restaurants, convenience stores and hotels that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the plan, the city's 40 restaurants and three convenience stores will receive a rebate for sales taxes paid to the city for a three-month period. The total rebate is $204,000.
The plan also includes a rebate for the six hotels or motels in the city, which totals roughly $107,000. This rebate is 25% of the sales taxes remitted by those establishments to the city for a three-month period.
"We recognize how this crisis has impacted businesses and want to show our support and provide any assistance that we can during this very challenging time," acting Mayor Paul Esposito said in a written statement.
