Mount Prospect man charged in car break-ins

Mount Prospect police say a village resident has been charged in connection with several criminal trespass to vehicle cases.

Jamal Perteete, 28, of the 1500 block of West Cottonwood Lane, is charged with two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, one felony count of burglary to motor vehicle and eight misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to vehicle.

Police said the charges all stem from a 911 call at 5:10 a.m. April 29 regarding a car burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Sir Lancelot Lane. Upon arrival, officers spotted a man running from the area, but captured him after a short foot chase, police said.

A witness identified the burglary suspect as Perteete, authorities said. Police obtained a search warrant from a Cook County judge and searched Perteete's home, finding what they said were two stolen handguns.

Perteete is being held on $30,000 bail. His next court date is set for May 13, at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
