Police: Elgin man threatened to shoot officers in domestic call

A 25-year-old Elgin man has been charged with threatening police officers after his arrest early Saturday during a domestic incident.

Angelo Aranda, of the 200 block of Perry Street, faces felony charges of aggravated battery of a police officer, threatening a public official, aggravated assault of a peace office, along with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and resisting arrest after an incident on the 1200 block of Perry Street on the city's near west side, according to an Elgin police report and Kane County court records.

According the police report, Aranda was arguing with his mother shortly after midnight when he began breaking items and pushed her in the chest with two hands. Police came to the door, and Aranda approached an officer with his right fist clenched, saying "You wanna get beat up?" the report said.

The officer grabbed Aranda's arm, cuffed and arrested him. Aranda threatened to spit on police when the case went to court, said he wanted them to "die slow" and "I'm gonna put a bullet in your spine" while swearing, according to the report.

While being taken to the police van, Aranda pushed police and continued to swear at them, the report said.

Aranda, who court records show does not have any previous criminal arrests and convictions in Kane County, is free on his own recognizance and due in court June 4. He is not to have contact with the victims and must stay away from the Perry Street residence while on bond, records show.

If convicted of the most severe charge of aggravated battery to a police officer, Aranda faces a sentence ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison. The threatening a public official charge carries at top sentence of five years in prison.
