Mundelein High turns on stadium lights in support of the community

The lights came on at Mundelein High School's football stadium Friday night for a game of community support.

The school hosted a "Friday Night Lights" event from 8 to 9 p.m. at the athletic field and throughout the community, although everyone was encouraged to stay away and follow social distancing regulations.

"The COVID-19 virus may have stolen our spring school year from us, but it won't diminish our support for all MHS students," said Anthony Kroll, principal.

Residents were encouraged to participate by turning on their porch lights and post a sign on their front doors in support of local first responders and health care workers. Students were encouraged to put their jerseys and spirit wear or photos on their front doors as well.

Through the use of social media, administrators earlier dedicated each of the four light posts in the stadium to different groups: one for first responders, scientists and health care workers, one for the resiliency of the community, one for all the high school student groups, and one for the senior class of 2020.
