Cary man arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm

A Cary man was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after an incident where police say he shot a handgun in the first block of East Main Street in Cary.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said nobody was injured.

Police officers were dispatched to 0 to 100 block of E. Main Street at 11:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a spent shell casing outside the building. After what police said was a brief standoff, Steven J. Burns, 48, was detained on the scene.

After searching Burns' residence, police found two firearms and miscellaneous firearm ammunition.

"We didn't get any indication he was trying to shoot at anyone," Naydenoff said. "One of the witnesses indicated that he fired up in the air, not toward anyone or any buildings."
