Elmhurst house fire causes $30,000 in damage

An early morning fire at a house on the 300 block of West Alexander Boulevard in Elmhurst caused $30,000 in damage and left the single-story dwelling uninhabitable.

Elmhurst Fire Department officials said the blaze was reported just after 2 a.m. Monday. The two people inside were able to escape unharmed. No firefighters were injured battling the fire.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. There is no word on what caused the blaze or where it started.

The single-family house is owned by nearby Elmhurst College, fire officials said. Firefighters from Addison, Bensenville, Villa Park, Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace assisted.
