Our Lady of the Wayside teachers hold drive-by parade for students

Teachers at Our Lady of the Wayside School drove up and down the streets of Arlington Heights this week to show their kindergarten students just how much they're missed.

Kindergarten teachers, aides and other staff members on Thursday led a caravan of a dozen cars and SUVs decorated with signs, streamers and blue and white balloons as they drove by the houses of all kindergartners.

Escorted by two Arlington Heights police cars, the school employees honked horns and rolled down their windows to wave at each student's house. Many students and families, sporting their spirit gear, were camped out on front lawns where they waved back.

"We sure do love our teachers and miss them too," said Anne Edwards, who was with her kids in front of their house.

Members of the Edwards family, like others, held balloons and homemade signs of their own during the parade.
