Elgin's first pride parade postponed to 2021
Elgin's first LGBTQ+ pride parade and festival, scheduled for June 6 and 7, was postponed to 2021, organizers said.
A post on the event's Facebook page said "it is better to err on the side of caution" in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. There might be smaller gatherings in June, but that remains to be determined, organizers said.
"With the uncertainty that is part of our daily lives right now, it is hard to predict whether everything will be back to 'normal' by early June, and we also feel the economic impact on our local businesses and supporters," the post said.
"We are so thankful for all the support we've received in the past year since we initially began planning. This is a heartbreaking decision to have to make for all of us, as we have put in a ton of work and we know everyone was really excited for this. However, we fully intend to come back even bigger and stronger next year!"
