Arlington Heights student's school project wins national art contest

An Arlington Heights elementary school student got a bit of national recognition after winning an online art competition for her school project.

Dryden Elementary student Zoe Teich received more than 1,000 online votes in the Artsonia Artist of the Week contest. She submitted a movable cardboard color monster — a stop-motion animation art project that explored students' feelings.

Artsonia.com, an online student art museum exhibiting more than 75 million pieces of student art, holds the weekly voting competition in four different groupings (grades pre-K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12). Artsonia selects a dozen random submissions of artwork every week, and voting is then open to the public.

Zoe said she was “surprised and really happy” when she found out she had won, according to an Artsonia announcement.

She won a $50 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials, and Dryden also received a $100 gift certificate.

Family and friends of student artists can create and purchase keepsakes from the student art on the website.
