CLC trustee Timothy S. Powell dies at 70

College of Lake County Trustee Timothy S. Powell has died, the college announced Tuesday.

Powell was elected to the board in April of 2019.

"We are shocked and saddened at losing Trustee Powell. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time," CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick said. "He served the College of Lake County well."

Before his time on the board, Powell, who was 70, worked in the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

Powell, who lived in Grayslake, was also active in several civic organizations and projects and was first elected to a local leadership role in 2001 when he won a seat on the Avon Township Board. He also served on the Grayslake Public Library board.

"Tim's service over the past year was exemplary," CLC board chair William M. Griffin said. "He was an enthusiastic supporter of students and college events, and he attended several educational conferences as he eagerly learned more about his role as a trustee."

Applicants interested in filling the vacancy left by Powell's passing are being encouraged by CLC to send a one-page letter to ksenase@clcillinois.edu stating why they would like to serve on the board and listing their qualifications. Letters can also be faxed to (847) 543-3017 or mailed to Karen Senase at 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

Applications must be received by the college by 4 p.m. March 26.
