Camerer secures GOP nod in 45th Illinois House District
Bartlett Republican Michael Camerer has secured the GOP nomination for the Illinois House 45th District seat.
With all 111 precincts reporting, Camerer, a village trustee in Bartlett, had collected 2,305 votes according to unofficial tallies from DuPage and Cook counties. Ramey, the Wayne Township supervisor, trailed with 1,973 votes. Alfredo "Al" Manzo was in third place with 538 votes.
Ramey was previously the chairman of the DuĀPage County GOP and spent about eight years in the state House. He tried to make the leap to the state Senate in the Republican primary in 2012, but lost against incumbent Carole Pankau.
Camerer, a chiropractor, supports putting a "Fair Map" constitutional amendment question to voters in November. If approved, the amendment would create a special commission to draw the state's legislative districts.
Camerer will advance to the November general election to face first-term lawmaker Diane Pappas, an Itasca Democrat who is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Two years ago, Pappas, an attorney, narrowly defeated Christine Winger to flip the Republican-held seat in a district that stretches from Wood Dale to Wayne.
