Rolling Meadows fire chief retires

Rolling Meadows Fire Chief Terry Valentino officially retired Friday after more than four decades in the fire service.

Valentino, appointed chief in 2017, was hired as deputy chief in 2014 and spent 33 years with the Arlington Heights Fire Department that included time as division commander of training and battalion commander of fire suppression. He also had a two-year stint in Schaumburg as fire training coordinator.

In Rolling Meadows, Valentino oversaw the opening in December of the new Fire Station 15, the $5.8 million, 11,925-square-foot facility at 3201 Algonquin Road. It's one piece of the fire department's long-planned effort to relocate both of its fire stations. The new Station 16 at 2340 Hicks Road is expected to open in April.

Announced by city officials last month, current Deputy Chief Jeff Moxley will be promoted to chief, and current Battalion Chief Rick Acosta will be promoted to deputy chief. A swearing in ceremony is scheduled for the March 24 city council meeting.
