Boil order issued, Cary schools closed after water main break

A boil order was issued Monday night for some residents in Cary after a water main break near True Value Manufacturing.

The water main break led to Cary-Grove High School and all Cary District 26 schools to close on Tuesday.

Because of the water main break, according to a village news release sent Monday night, many properties in the areas south and west of downtown Cary experienced low water pressure or a complete loss of water. This included the Brigadoon, Cary Woods and Cary Pointe subdivisions, and some of the immediate surrounding areas in the vicinity of the High Road water tower.

According to the release, the water main break was isolated and water pressure is expected to return to normal shortly. A precautionary boil order was issued for properties that experienced a complete loss of water pressure. However, this boil order does not apply to properties that experienced reduced pressure.

Eric Morimoto, director of public works, said the boil order is expected to last at least until Wednesday, but could be longer depending on the length of time needed for the actual repair.

He said the village will notify the public once the order is lifted.
