Naperville family displaced by basement fire

A Naperville family was displaced from its home on the 800 block of Proud Clarion Court Tuesday morning by a fire that started in a basement bathroom, firefighters said.

Crews responded at 6:39 a.m. to an alarm from a smoke detector inside the house and arrived about six minutes later to find smoke coming from the basement. Three people were home at the time and were able to escape unharmed.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bathroom and extinguish it in about 10 minutes. Crews ventilated the building and conducted overhaul efforts to expose any hidden fire or areas of high heat.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said. The home was declared uninhabitable by the city's transportation, engineering and development team.
