Soldier who was Palatine native to be remembered at service in village Sunday

A public service to remember Army Staff Sgt. Matt Morgan will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy. in Palatine. Morgan, 30, a Palatine native, was found dead Feb. 3 in the waters off Okinawa, Japan, one day after he went missing while on a recreational scuba dive. Full military honors will be presented to Morgan at 2 p.m. Morgan played baseball at Palatine High School, which he attended from 2003 to 2007. Survivors include his wife, Amanda, mother and sister, according to his obituary. He enlisted in the Army in 2010 and most recently was stationed in Okinawa.
