Elk Grove Village mayor schedules town hall amid term limits push

Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson and village trustees on Wednesday scheduled a town hall meeting to rebut allegations raised against them during the term limits referendum campaign.

Board members will "take and answer questions on issues raised by the unknown circulators or mailings and robocalls," according to the announcement on the village website. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the council chambers of village hall, 901 Wellington Ave.

The March 17 binding ballot question brought by resident Tim Burns would ask voters whether the mayor and trustees should serve no more than two consecutive 4-year terms, and if approved, would prevent the mayor and three trustees from running again in April 2021.

Johnson publicly blasted his political opponents during a Jan. 28 village board meeting, accusing them of being behind the series of anonymous robocalls and campaign-style mailers.
