Wonders of Winter include a mild temperature

The comparatively warm weather Saturday didn't take all the winter fun out of the air as visitors to the Wonders of Winter open house at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook enjoyed lessons on ice fishing, archery, taxidermy and cooking over a fire pit.

From the look of the chocolate smeared on the chin of Evan Ng, 3, the s'mores firepit was the highlight of his day.

His parents Kevin and Jennifer Ng of nearby Villa Park said it was Evan's first experience with s'mores but not his first time at the historic Mayslake Hall, a registered national landmark well-known as a cultural and educational center.

"Actually, we were married here," said Jennifer. "It's beautiful here."

The events were centered around the front yard of the building. Crafts and nature programs were presented by rangers and naturalists.
