Carjacker sentenced to 8 years in prison

A Chicago resident who hijacked a car in Wheaton in 2018 was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison, the DuPage County state's attorney's office said.

Demarion Chambers, 23, pleaded guilty Dec. 4, 2019, to one count of vehicular hijacking.

Chambers approached a vehicle parked outside the Target store on County Farm Road at 9:07 p.m. Dec. 13, 2018, and repeatedly knocked on the car window, according to a news release.

The female occupant eventually opened the door, at which time Chambers pulled the door open and threatened the woman, who left the vehicle. Chambers was arrested the next day and has been held since then in the DuPage County jail on $500,000 bail.

Chambers must serve 50% of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
