Elmhurst cops warn of overnight car burglaries

Elmhurst police are cautioning residents about a series of car burglaries targeting unlocked vehicles parked overnight in the suburbs that continued in the early morning hours of Thursday on the 700 block of S. Kent.

Police said they believe the burglar entered an unlocked car parked in the driveway around 3 a.m. and activated the remote garage door opener. The intruder then entered the garage and an unlocked car that was parked inside. The suspect was able to start the car using a key-fob left inside the vehicle and then drove away heading south on York Road near Brush Hill.

Police are urging residents to always lock their car doors and never leave keys or a key-fob inside their cars.
