Buffalo Grove fire lieutenant honored for helping flood victims

Buffalo Grove Fire Lt. Andrew Russell was honored recently by the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System for his humanitarian efforts during the agency's deployment to southern Illinois to assist those impacted by flooding last year.

Fire Chief Mike Baker, who recognized Russell during this week's village board meeting, said MABAS organizes efforts to support areas feeling the impact of historic flood levels.

"Part of that response was to provide communication capabilities, due to the rural nature of the area affected," he said.

Russell, he said, was among the key personnel supporting the communications deployment.

It's not the first time Russell has received the recognition, having previously been honored for his efforts after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
