Police: Man shows gun, robs store in Naperville

An armed robber stole an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes from a convenience store Thursday evening in Naperville, authorities said.

The robbery was reported at 7:39 p.m. at a store on the 1600 block of North Route 59, police said.

The man showed a handgun to a clerk in the store near Diehl Road, took currency and cigarettes, and then drove away. No one was injured.

Police described the robber as a black man, possibly in his early 20s, with a short stature and a thin build who was wearing dark clothing and a dark hat.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call the investigations division at (630) 420-6666.

This is at least the third armed robbery this week in DuPage County in which gunmen stole cash and cigarettes.

The first was reported early Tuesday morning when three men displayed a gun while holding up a Shell gas station at 301 W. Butterfield Road in Elmhurst.

The second came early Thursday morning when three men robbed the Lisle Speedway station on Ogden Avenue near I-355.

In both those cases the suspects were described as black men wearing dark jackets or hoodies with gloves and, in the Elmhurst case, with masks covering parts of their faces.

No injuries were reported in either case.
