Cause of Lombard apartment fire under investigation

Two residents and two police officers were treated for minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after a fire at an apartment building at 2000 St. Regis Drive in Lombard, authorities said Thursday.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and damage estimates were not immediately available.

Firefighters responded at 1:36 p.m. after a resident reported a fire in a second-floor unit. Crews helped evacuate some residents but advised those on the fourth floor and above to remain in place.

The fire was contained by 1:49 p.m. but crews remained on the scene for roughly 90 minutes removing smoke from throughout the building.

Lombard was assisted at the scene by the Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Villa Park and Wheaton fire departments and the Addison, Lisle-Woodridge, Oak Brook Terrace and York Center fire protection districts.
