Schaumburg parks host 5K, chili lunch Dec. 7

You're unlikely to find a 5K race later in the year - or appreciate a chili lunch more - than at the Schaumburg Park District's Chilly Chili 5K Run/Walk sponsored by Amita Health, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Schaumburg Golf Club.

The race, along the cart paths of the golf course at 401 N. Roselle Road, is U.S.A. Track & Field certified.

Though participants as young as 10 years old are welcome, those older than 21 will get a free beer with their chili lunch afterward. And everyone will get a long-sleeve T-shirt.

"This race is a great way to stay on track with your fitness goals amid the holiday season," said Emily Silva, a park district fitness supervisor. "It is a safe, fun course that's a hit every year with runners."

Awards are given to three winners in each age division and results will be published on parkfun.com the morning after the race.

Additional beers and other beverages will be available for purchase in the ballroom of the clubhouse.

The preregistration cost of $35 is available through Wednesday, Nov. 27, at active.com. Race-day registration costs $40. Check-in, packet pickup and race-day registration will be available from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on race day.

Spectators can buy a meal ticket for $9. Additional beverage tickets are $4.
