District 70 hires next finance director

John Herrin, a 6-year school finance veteran, has been hired as the next director of finance and operations for Libertyville Elementary District 70.

Herrin, 35, will finish the school year as the chief business official in Grayslake Elementary District 46 before joining District 70 for 2020-21. He is replacing Kurt Valentin, who will retire June 30 after 20 years.

The District 70 school board unanimously approved a one-year contract for Herrin at a salary of $150,000. School board members, teachers, principals, the family association and central office administrators were involved in the recruitment and selection process, according to the district.

Herrin began his school career in 2013 as the account payable and chief school business intern in Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103.
