Ingleside woman charged in trail stabbing to be evaluated by defense expert

The 60-year-old woman charged with stabbing a mother who was walking with her child on a Grant Woods Forest Preserve trail last Monday will be evaluated before her criminal trial proceeds.

Marquette Owens of Ingleside appeared for a hearing before Judge Reginald Matthews Tuesday.

Attorney Molly Leimback, Owens' public defender, requested that her client meet with a defense expert for an evaluation. Matthews approved the order and set a hearing on Nov. 19 to follow up.

Owens faces aggravated battery and attempted murder charges in the attack, which occurred about 5 p.m. Oct. 21, according to Forest Preserve Police.

The child was not hurt. However, the mother suffered serious injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment after she managed to escape and flag down help, authorities said. The injuries are not life-threatening, according to authorities.

A Lake County judge set Owen's bail at $750,000 last week.
