Kentucky man suffered fatal medical problem before Lake County crash

A Kentucky man pronounced dead Friday morning after a crash north of Wauconda died as a result of a medical issue that occurred before the crash, Lake County authorities said Tuesday.

Sandro Montagnani, of Adairville, Kentucky, died as from complications of hemorrhage due to an aortal pulmonary fistula rupture, according to a statement from Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper. Toxicology results are pending. Montagnani did not suffer any injuries from the crash, Cooper said.

According to the Lake County sheriff's office, Montagnani was driving a 2014 Dodge Journey west on Route 60 near Blackhawk Trail about 9:15 a.m. Friday when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled through a cornfield north of the road. He was pronounced dead the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, officials said Tuesday.
