Hanover Township appoints new emergency services leader

Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire has appointed Mike Crews as director of the township's Emergency Services Department, effective Oct. 28.

Crews joins the township after more than 15 years of experience as the emergency manager of the Christian County Emergency Management Agency and 27 years of experience in the fire service.

"We couldn't be more excited to have someone with Director Crew's experience and professionalism lead the department," McGuire said in an announcement of the hire. "Since 2009, Hanover Township Emergency Services has taken a step forward each year in terms of their abilities and we look forward to his leadership in taking the department to the next level."

Crews recently served as chief of the Taylorville Fire Department, where he oversaw department operations and fire service training for the city. In his role with the Christian County EMA, Crews coordinated local disaster response - including to a EF-3 tornado last year - and obtained $1 million in grant funding for municipal and county projects, according to Hanover Township.
