Lake Villa VFW post treats expectant moms

Lake Villa VFW Post 4308 Auxiliary held a baby shower for 35 expectant moms who were veterans, active-duty military personnel, or military spouses.

Moms and their families were treated to an afternoon of cake, shower games and baby gifts during the Sept. 15 event.

Donations from local businesses, VFW posts and other auxiliaries provided some of the myriad needed items for new moms and babies, including a case of 100 diapers, formula starter packs, baby bath tub, a laundry basket containing crocheted blankets, sweaters, hats and bootees.

Each mom also received a large item, such as a baby car seat, stroller or baby gym, and a raffle ticket for an additional donated item, such as a gift basket from Mission Barbeque, restaurant gift cards, a basket filled with baby girl or baby boy items, a high chair, baby laundry soap, wrapped in a crocheted blanket. Moms also received a "celebration diaper cake," complete with a bottle of champagne, and a donated portable crib.

Screen printed T-shirts were purchased for everyone that read: "Home of the Free Because My Mommy is Brave."

Miss Lake Villa, Junior Miss Lake Villa and Little Miss Lake Villa did the judging to determine winners of the games for the moms and dads-to-be.
