Library hosts storytime for young, old in Buffalo Grove

Residents of Sunrise Assisted Living of Buffalo Grove came together with young children under age 4 and their parents to sing songs, listen to stories and make crafts on Tuesday.

The Oaks & Acorns Intergenerational Storytime is hosted by the Vernon Area Public Library.

"We do this to bring together seniors who may not otherwise get to the library and children and families who regularly go to the library. It creates a sense of community and family," said early literacy librarian Heather Hageli, who started the program.

Hageli led the group in songs, dance and stories, such as "Bear Feels Scared."

"The residents look so forward to it every year," said Sue Church, activities coordinator at Sunrise Assisted Living. "It's a intergenerational piece, which is not always easy to fill, so we welcome them every year."
