Zion man charged in Lake Forest fatal crash

A 31-year-old Zion man has been charged in a March 29 fatal crash in Lake Forest, police said Monday.

Christopher L. Lewis, of the 2100 block of Joppa Avenue, was arrested Saturday at a residence in Lake County and is being held at Lake County jail, according to a news release. His bond was set at $750,000.

He was charged with multiple felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated driving under the influence of drugs and aggravated driving under the combined influence of alcohol and any drug and reckless homicide, the news release said.

Police say Lewis was the driver in the single-car crash at 4 a.m. on northbound Route 41 north of Westleigh Road.

The vehicle appeared to have been heading north on Route 41 when it left the highway at a bend in the road and struck several trees before coming to rest down a steep embankment and catching fire, police said.

Sierra Riley, 20, died in the crash, while three other occupants of the car were taken to hospitals.

An arrest warrant was issued for Lewis on Sept. 20.
