Lake Zurich to discuss regulations for vaping, tobacco businesses
The Lake Zurich Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, to discuss proposed amendments regarding new tobacco and vaping businesses in town.
It is a continuation of a hearing that began Sept. 18.
In January, the village board placed a one-year moratorium on new tobacco and vape businesses in order to consider appropriate zoning changes for dealing with such establishments.
Proposed changes include: reclassifying tobacco stores and alternative nicotine shops as special uses in the business and office zoning districts, which would require public hearings and village board action before any new establishment can open; requiring they be located at least 100 feet from schools and recreational facilities; and requiring a minimum distance of 1,000 feet between similar stores.
The public hearing will take place at Lake Zurich village hall, 70 E. Main St.
