North Chicago mayor to lead discussion of assessments, census

North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at city hall, 1850 Lewis Ave., to address questions and share information about tax assessments, the 2020 census and other topics.

Representatives from the Shields Township and Lake County assessors also will be on hand to discuss recently issued assessment notices. North Chicago addresses located in Shields Township have seen a significant increase in values as a result of neighborhood revitalization efforts, city officials say.

Accurate census counts are needed to ensure continued funding.
