Demolition of shuttered Motel 6 in Elk Grove Village nears

Demolition of the shuttered Motel 6 at Oakton Street and Busse Road in Elk Grove Village is planned for this fall, clearing the way for a still-to-be-announced redevelopment.

The village board this week inked a $235,900 contract with Bridgeview-based Signature Demolition Services for demolition and site restoration of the former motel. The village purchased the property for $5.3 million last May with an eye toward rejuvenating what is an entryway to town. Officials have spoken with developers about a hospitality use for the site, similar to what is planned across the street on the former Elk Grove Hotel site.

The village is selling that land to a developer, who last month announced plans for a $7 million, three-story Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, and a $14 million, four-story Tru by Hilton hotel. Two outlot restaurants also are proposed.
