Pet dog perishes in Naperville house fire

A kitchen fire killed a pet dog and left a Naperville home uninhabitable Monday afternoon on the 100 block of Tupelo Avenue, authorities said.

Firefighters were called at 1:54 p.m. and arrived five minutes later to find smoke showing from the roof of the bi-level house. They found the fire burning in the kitchen and quickly extinguished it.

No residents were home at the time, but the dog was found during the initial search.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
