The how and why of removing buckthorn

Learn the why and how of removing invasive buckthorn from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Hawthorn Woods village barn, 2 Lagoon Drive, off North Old McHenry Road east of Quentin Road. Lake County Forest Preserve District staff will give a presentation as part of the Healthy Hedges regional initiative to deal with the pesky invasive species. Buckthorn is one of the most invasive shrubs in the area because of its resilience and ability to reseed. It can grow uncontrollably and kill native species. The specific steps in removing buckthorn will be discussed.
