Opioid education, resources and support forum Saturday in Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village Cares and the Kenneth Young Center are hosting a community awareness event from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, to provide education, resources and support for those facing opioid and substance abuse challenges.

The day will include panel discussions, Narcan training and a memorial service and tree-planting ceremony honoring the lives lost to the disease of addiction. The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at Kenneth Young Center, 1001 Rohlwing Road.

Events include a panel of experts with a question-and-answer session at 10:30 a.m.; speakers, breakout sessions, Narcan training, parent panel, in recovery panel and open mic from noon to 3 p.m.; a keynote address by Daryl Pass, CEO of New Beginnings Recovery Mission at 1:20 p.m.; a resource fair at 3 p.m.; and a tree-planting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

Elk Grove Village Cares is a comprehensive, community-based opioid treatment and education program launched last year by Elk Grove Village officials.
