Waukegan man killed in hit-and-run crash

Police in Waukegan are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian early Saturday, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded about 12:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of a pedestrian struck on the 2400 block of Washington Street.

The victim, described as a Waukegan man in his 50s, was located in the street with serious injuries and taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to police. His identity was being held pending proper notification of his family, police said.

Traffic investigators believe that a black sedan was speeding east on Washington Street when it struck the victim. Witnesses in the area describe hearing a "very loud exhaust," police said.

Anyone with information should call the Waukegan police tip line at (847) 360-9001.
