Man not guilty in Aurora robbery, shooting; trial set for co-defendant

A 34-year-old Aurora man was found not guilty last week after a jury trial on charges he and a woman robbed an Aurora home in early August 2018, firing two shots into the floor in the process.

However, Savaughn A. Strickland, of the 0-99 block of Louckes Street, still faces prison if convicted of driving drunk and injuring seven people in a December 2017 crash in Kendall County, and he is serving a four-year prison term for drug possession, according to Kane and Kendall county court records.

The woman, Elishea J. Langston, 30, of the 100 block of Gregory Street in Aurora, is set for a jury trial Sept. 23 on the armed robbery and home invasion charges. She is being held at the Kane County jail on $254,250 bail.

The pair were arrested in mid-September 2018. They were accused of forcing their way into a home on the 1300 block of East Galena Boulevard about 1 a.m. Aug. 5, according to police and court records.

Strickland's defense attorney, Brian Erwin, said his client was found not guilty on all counts after 1½ hours of deliberations by Kane County jurors.

In July 2019, Strickland pleaded guilty to felony drug possession charges from a 2017 arrest in Kane County and was sentenced to four years in prison. He can have that sentence cut in half for good behavior. Strickland also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing identification in a September 2018 incident; that case is pending, and he is next due in Kane County court on Wednesday.

And in late August, a warrant was issued for Strickland on charges of seven counts of felony aggravated DUI and driving with a revoked license from a Dec. 25, 2017, crash in Little Rock Township in Kendall County. He is accused of injuring an 80-year-old woman and six others in a head-on crash. Strickland is due in court Monday in Kendall County on those charges, which carry up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
