Arlington Heights police cite 153 for not wearing seat belts

Arlington Heights police cited 153 people for not wearing seat belts during stepped-up enforcement Aug. 16 through Sept. 3.

That was among the statistics released by police this week at the conclusion of their "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" Labor Day enforcement campaigns done in conjunction with Illinois Department of Transportation.

Cops also gave out 45 tickets for cellphone use while driving, 67 equipment violations, six tickets for failure to secure a child in a safety seat, and made one warrant arrest, among other citations.

The police department conducted a roadside safety checkpoint, numerous seat belt enforcement zones and roving DUI saturation patrols as part of the campaign.
