The next phase of downtown Arlington Heights construction is set to begin this fall with replacement of brick sidewalk areas north of Northwest Highway.

The village board this week inked a $891,171 contract with Elgin-based Martam Construction to replace bricks installed more than 30 years ago that have been deteriorating from the bottom up and leading to settling problems.

The village developed a new layout design and brick style in 2015, and Martam did the first phase of the project in 2016.

Work to install new and larger sewers in the downtown continues as part of a $3.6 million stormwater project. Other work in the downtown this construction season has included new Nicor gas mains and resurfacing of a portion of Northwest Highway by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
