Mount Prospect awarded $460,500 county grant for road project

Mount Prospect has been awarded a $460,500 grant from the Cook County Department of Highway's Invest in Cook program for the Rand-Central-Mount Prospect Intersection Improvement Project.

The village fully funded Phase I of the project, which included preliminary engineering. The grant will provide funding to perform Phase II engineering for the project, which officials say will improve mobility, access and safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists at the intersections of Rand, Central and Mount Prospect roads, as well as the nearby Rand Road corridor.

Phase II Engineering involves the selection of an engineering firm to design construction plans and acquire right-of-way to accommodate roadway widening. The grant will cover half the anticipated costs. The village has also applied for federal funding through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program.
